Why Choose Aluminum Railing?
We finish our aluminum railing using a powder-coat paint process that creates a long-lasting finish. Other advantages include:
- Low maintenance – Our process makes this fencing option completely maintenance-free.
- Unique and aesthetic look – Our aluminum railing comes in a variety of custom colours and adds stylish value to any property.
- Durability - As a nonferrous metal, aluminum won't rust or corrode. It stands up well against the harsh climates of North America.
- Lower Cost – Aluminum is much more affordable than steel and wrought iron. This finish doesn't require the time-consuming, expensive upkeep necessary for wood railing systems.

Do I need railings for my deck?
There are code requirements to be followed for all decks, though your choice to include or exclude railings for your deck may also consider who will most commonly be using the space and what specific safety and comfort needs they may identify. For example, if you have or regularly entertain small children, you may want to ensure that you have a railing on your deck regardless of the height of your surface.
In short, any deck which stands less than 24 inches (two feet) off the ground does not require a railing. Once you reach the 24 inch threshold, you do require a railing be installed. Building code requires that a deck railing measures at least 36 inches (3 feet) in height at this level. It is important to note that should you elect to install a railing on a lower level of the deck, it still must meet the 36 inch height requirement.
Replacing a deck railing?
No matter what material makes up the surface of your deck – wood, composite, or vinyl – many homeowners are looking to aluminum when it is time to replace their deck railing. Aluminum offers a modern, impressive look to frame your deck and comes in a variety of colors which may serve as a distinct accent to the exterior of your home. Another reason that aluminum railings are so popular as a replacement choice for railings is that they can be easily installed for the do-it-yourselfer or you can enlist the expertise of professional installers such as our team at Alberta Vinyl Decking & Railing.
Can I paint aluminum railings?
The short answer is yes. While aluminum railings do come in a variety of colors, you may find that you want to switch up the color to suit your personal taste, to refresh the look of your railings, or to match a renovation that you have made to the exterior appearance of your home.
For best results, it is recommended that you first remove all dirt and rust from the railings and that you apply a coat of primer as well as scuff-sand the surface to ensure optimal adhesion of the paint. Be sure to avoid days when rain is in the forecast or there is a high level of humidity present, as this can negatively impact the results of your painting project.

Glass Panel Options
Our glass panels are built with Safety Tempered Glass. The typical process for making Safety Tempered Glass is to start with regular annealed glass, and run it through a tempering oven which heats it up to about 1200 degrees and then quenches the glass with cool air. The air hardens the outside of the glass quickly. The inside core cools more slowly, but with the outside fixed internal stresses buildup inside the glass as the center core area shrinks as it cools. These internal stresses are what makes the tempered glass stronger, and make it safety glass. Safety glass can break, but if it does break it will break into small pieces instantly. You can still get cut with safety glass, but the injuries are typically minor. Always wear safety glasses when working with any kind of glass. Once glass is made into safety glass it is not possible to cut or drill holes without causing the glass to explode.
There is a small permanent logo is etched into each piece of safety glass identifying it as safety glass. Most building departments require and will look for the tempering logos during a site inspection.
